Glossary
Anonymous
Anonymous is a globally recognized decentralized hacktivist collective, known for its widespread cyberattacks targeting numerous governments, government institutions, government agencies, and corporations. These actions have led to the arrest of numerous individuals involved in Anonymous cyberattacks across various countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, India, and Turkey.
Although Anonymous’ media presence declined by 2018, the group resurfaced in 2020 to provide support for the George Floyd protests and other social causes. The decentralized structure of Anonymous enables different hackers in private chat rooms to contribute to different operations, while also allowing individuals who align with their mission to adopt the “Anonymous” label, regardless of formal group affiliation.
Not to be confused with Anonymous Sudan.
